We are very excited to introduce Positive Parenting -- a new education and support group for parents of babies and toddlers! Our program offers numerous weekly classes, each containing approximately 5 to 8 moms with children of a similar age. The narrow age range of our classes allows us to specifically focus on the developmental stage of your child and the particular challenges and rewards you are facing.
Each week, our experienced moms present expert information on a variety of topics relevant to your child’s stage, covering such issues as development, sleep, feeding, and much more. At appropriate intervals, we also provide you with the AAP-recommended Ages & Stages Questionnaire to help you monitor your child's development. Our instructors welcome discussion of your current parenting issues and encourage each of our moms to share their stories and questions. And because we recognize that every family is unique, we discuss current research and opinions in a non-judgemental forum. By providing education, information and support, we at Positive Parenting believe that our classes can strengthen your role as a parent and effectively assist you through this special time of your lives!

The Positive Parenting program is modeled on the curriculum of the Early Childhood Development Center (ECDC) located in Manhattan, New York. This parenting program has provided education and support to new moms in the New York metro area for over 30 years. Its unique approach of offering a three-year program of weekly classes for moms of similarly-aged children, in conjunction with a curriculum of age-appropriate topics, has proven to be successful in helping moms navigate through the first years of their children’s lives. With the support of the New York-based ECDC, New York’s leading parenting program is now available for the first time in Denver!

The ECDC was established in 1974, under the directorship of Dr. Nina R. Lief, by the New York Junior League and the Center for Comprehensive Health Practice, Inc. Its mission is to teach parents the principles of child development and provide much needed support for parents of all backgrounds. While considerable research has been done on the crucial importance of a child’s earliest years, little of the knowledge and understanding derived from this research reaches the parents, who have primary responsibility for the child’s care and development. With the decreasing availability of support from the extended family, new parents need training to understand the progress of their own children and to know what to expect as a child develops, what to foster, and how to foster it. We believe your possession of such information can greatly benefit both you and your children. Our goal is to provide you with this information during each of our weekly classes.

"Our society trains people for every type of job -- computer programming, hair dressing, law, teaching, medicine -- every vocation, that is, except parenting, the most important of all."
-Dr. Nina R. Lief, Former Director of the Early Childhood Development Center |
"As a first time parent, I have found the Early Childhood Development Center to be invaluable. The group environment fosters a lot of ongoing dialog between Mothers and the Group Leader, and the advise and guidance received has been so incredibly helpful."
-Shannon L. Froehlich, Attendee of Early Childhood Development Center classes in NY |
"Before my first child was born I did not see the need for a parenting class - I am well educated, with a supportive spouse, and felt very prepared for parenthood. However, after my son was born I soon realized how much I had to learn about parenting. A friend encouraged me to take a parenting class with her, and I quickly saw the tremendous value. A parenting support class is a wonderful opportunity for parents to get together and share experiences about the joys and difficulties of raising young children. The class I took helped me through some of the more tricky parts of parenting - and showed me I was not alone with all my questions."
-Pam Gipe, Attendee of Early Childhood Family Education classes in MN |
